Get to Know a Groupie: Katie King

October 29, 2015

I’ve been at the agency for a ittle over a year

When I wake up in the morning, my first thought is: “You couldn’t let mommy and daddy sleep a little longer?”

My favorite things to do are:

Cycling (Road and recently, singletrack mountain biking)

Traveling with friends (Spain – 2010, NYC – 2010, and Atlanta – 2013)

(I’ve been friends with a lot of these fantastic ladies from all over the world since 2009, and this isn’t even half of them. I’ve been to DragonCon in Atlanta with them four times, Bilbao and Basauri, Spain, and New York City, plus the occasional meetup whenever some of us happen to be in the same time zone. Every time, we end up with a ton of stories to tell. My most famous one always begins with “In Spain…” and no, you can’t hear it, but it involves C-level celebrities, glitter, a terrible British accent, and four hours of sleep in a four day period)

Hanging out with our kids (Sam – 3 ½ , and Anna – born January 1st)

Drink of choice: Coke. It’s my worst vice. I could drop 20 lbs if I could just quit my habit.

The accomplishment I’m most proud of: The sappy answer is having two beautiful, healthy children. The real answer is managing to get through the day with them and not shipping them off to the circus. I also have three very shiny Emmy Awards in my office from my days as a news graphic artist and commercial producer.

Most played artists on my iPod: Explosions in the Sky, Mumford & Sons, The National

My current desktop picture is: Tilt-shifted aerial photographs of cities or landscapes (it changes every 10 minutes)

What I’m reading:sigh…who has time to read right now with an infant? I don’t know how my husband does it.

A talent I wish I had is: Mastery of the guitar and/or piano

My favorite flicks: The American President, While You Were Sleeping, Children of Men

My guilty pleasures are: Traveling to the occasional sci-fi/comic convention with the fantastic friends I’ve made from all over the world. Escaping for an hour or two on my bike while my husband takes care of the kiddos.

My idols include: My parents, who have worked hard and sacrificed so much for us to have a good life. Anna Kendrick is my social media hero. Also Terry Crews seems like a pretty cool dude. What?

When it comes to relaxation, I prefer to: Lie in bed and watch TV or go out for a bike ride to clear my head. Getting outdoors when I can, as long as it doesn’t involve work.

My DVR is full of: Downton Abbey, Battlestar Galactica, HGTV shows. You should see my Netflix queue though. So many shows, so little time.

My favorite quote is: “Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies – God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.” – Kurt Vonnegut

I am fascinated by: Space and the universe, good music, the feeling I get while riding my bike on a beautiful day

My top three items on my bucket list are: Seeing all of the National Parks (1 out of 58 done. Yeah. That’s going to take a long time, not to mention money), road trip across the US and Canada, going to San Diego Comic Con, seeing my kids grow up and become good adults.

What I love most about what I do at Meridian Group is: Great people to work with here who have made me feel very welcome. And have you SEEN the view from my office?
