Virginia Zoo
Why would we turn to artists from around the world to promote a zoo in Virginia?
Because the Virginia Zoo was opening its newest exhibit, “Trail of the Tiger,” featuring animals from throughout Southeast Asia. The Virginia Zoo is also dedicated to wildlife preservation, so reaching out to artists from across the globe just made sense. Six world- renowned nature illustrators created unique “portraits” of the Zoo’s new animals. We also worked with an award-winning puppeteer from Australia who helped us create a broadcast spot done in the style of “Wayang Kulit”, the ancient art of shadow puppetry. The entire spot was created by hand and shot in one take which included the traditional Gamelan musician who created the score. We utilized the art and film to create a multi-media campaign including movie theater spots, unique signage, online banners and social media that had the turnstiles spinning.
